Any way to get context menu on right click for Start Screen

I pinned an application to my start menu, occasionally I need to run that app with Admin privs. All I can find in the Start Screen is the "Run As Admin" option that appears at the bottom of the screen.

It's a real pain to have to click the app near the top of the screen and then slide all of the way to the bottom for "run as admin".

Am I out of luck on this one...aside from pinning it to taskbar in Desktop (whch is probably where it belongs anyway)?

Try Ctrl+Shift+Enter or Ctrl+Shift+Click. I think at least one of them will work.

Thanks, the CTRL-SHIFT-Click method indeed does work. It's still a pain because now I have to use both hands, one on the mouse and 1 on the keyboard, but it's better I guess than scrolling all over the screen.

Like most things, in Windows 8 I would simply do this at the desktop so I could continue to do it the way that is familiar and works well.

Since the Start Screen and ALL APPS are WinRT and not Win32,
(the desktop is Win32)
things are a little different.

...but 2 clicks to launch anything is not any different than
launching the CLASSIC start menu and right clicking (for context menu)...

Unless you install a customized icon dock launcher...
on the desktop.

But when I have a shortcut on my desktop, I can right click once, and select run as admin without having to move my mouse across the entire screen. I like that much better.

Can you just locate the executable for the app->Properties->Compatibility then put a tick on "run this program as an Administrator"

You trying to get the Properties to pop up from the Start Screen? Seems there is yet something else you can't do. Hm, never tried it, all it does is bring up the bar on the bottom.

Could you move that application tile to the 3rd tile from left in bottom row on Start screen? Right click and move down to Run as Administrator

May be you are not following what I am trying to say.

1. Right click on the application tile
2. Instead of clicking on "Run as admin", Click on "Open File Location".
3. Right click->Properties->Compatibility and set it to "run this program as an Administrator"
4. Now even you left click on the tile, the program will run as admin.

I had few exe's on my 8 side until I got rid of 7 to notice this. As soon as I can rep you, you get one! I learned something. You are surely mastering the system. :thumb:

And yet another plus for Windows 8/8.1 Start Screens.

Yah, I guess if hes trying to run the EXE elevated, that'll work, good idea.

Thank you. Yes, I knew that. What I wrote wasn't fully explaining. I should have wrote " I had very few exe's on my 8 side until I got rid of 7 to notice this on the Start Screen menu of 8 and 8.1".

Non-executable tiles, of course, have less options within the menu.

Tiles/live tiles are desktop icons "reimagined" for use on the Start Screen. Far more useful and implemented IMO.
