Error codes 2503 and 2502 prevent software to be installed

Hey all.

Today I did a fresh install of Windows 8 build 9200 and I'm really liking it. However, there's one small problem: a lot of software can't be installed due to the repeating occurrence of error codes 2503 and 2502.

2503: something about Runscript
2502: something about InstallFinalize

I read that this happens because of an incorrect system date and time, but they are in fact accurate on my machine.

Using non-RAID on purpose as I find it too fussy and temperamental.
Thanks but none of those methods work. Also, there does not seem to be a "installer" folder in c:/Windows even with hidden folders enabled.

Well I tried. Hopefully someone will have an answer. You are doing this as a user with Admin rights I assume?

Yes, it's there.

You need to show protected files as well. But you can get there without doing that, just open Explorer, and in the address bar type C:\Windows\Installer

I have the same problem with msi and error codes 2503 and 2502, but I really don't want to reinstall everything.

I have seen many with the same problems, but so far not one of the 'solutions' I've seen actually works.
For a while it worked to log into the hidden Adminstrator account, but now with the HTC Sync Manager that workaround didn't work any longer neither :(

I thought the purpose of error codes should be to tell about what causes the problems, but those codes apparently give no such clues?

I found it

The error Appears because you don't have that right. So what i did is make the administrator account (Youtube it forgot how to enable it.) then install the program to the location you want and copy the shortcut to your account (user file in local disk)

Here's what finally worked for me on my Windows 8.1 VM. I was getting this error trying to install Git Extensions for Windows.

Go to C:\Windows\Temp and make sure the Users group for the local machine have write permissions to the Temp folder. It finally fixed the error for me and I was able to install Git Extensions. Yay!
