Will Windows 8 force quit resource heavy apps if GPU is too hot?

So I have been having issues with Fallout New Vegas crashing to the desktop whenever I run it on high graphics (the default in my case). I just got done cleaning a lot of dust and hair out of my computer's radiator (it is water cooled) and out of my GPU's heat sinks. Here are my system specs

    Windows 8 Release Preview x64
    Intel DX48BT2 motherboard
    Intel QX9770 Core 2 Extreme 3.2 GHz
    BFG GTX 295 Single PCB
8GB of OCZ 1333MHz DDR3 Gold Series Dual Channel RAM
30GB OCZ Vertex I SSD (This is where the game and the save files are stored)
    1TB Samsung HD103UJ HDD
    The CPU is liquid cooled

I noticed that the computer is much quieter now, but I haven't tested yet whether Fallout will stop crashing.
I can run Fallout New Vegas on minimal graphics just fine without it crashing. It is only when I step it up a notch (even to medium) that it starts having problem.

Is it is in the nature of Windows to force quit a resource heavy program if something like the GPU is experiencing high amounts of heat that it can't dissipate?

Windows 8 RTM (Retinas taking damage...)

Crashing is not done by the OS. If the card overheats, it will stop responding correctly and stuff will just start going wrong.
