Windows 8 on a netbook? Forget it!

Oh, it installs without a hitch, comes up, runs fine ... just don't try running any Metro apps because most of them won't work - the screen resolution I have is something like 1024 x 600 (fine for this device) but that's too small for most apps. The desktop is fine but virtually nothing else can be run outside that.

I like my little netbook but Windows 8 doesn't.

Good thing I made an image of that drive becuase I'll be restoring that soon. :orb:

Interesting, Cokie! I think I'm just gonna stick with Win7 on the netbook, though, as I'm not exactly enthralled with it anyway. As I'm using an HP Mini netbook the resolution tweak may not work anyway.

Even if that tweak worked you would likely end up with a distorted image. If I read it right you would be running a non native resolution on your screen.
Those screen size restrictions are pretty lame if you ask me. My 19 inch LCD isn't a wide screen monitor, its 1280 x 1024, so no Metro SNAP for me. :(

You actually don't end up with a distorted image. The screens have the resolution available, but it's not there by default for some odd reason. What happens is that the Desktop appears a bit smaller in size, and the metro apps show perfectly fine, although one will need to scroll over a tad more. It works though regardless of the OS that benefits whether it's 7 or 8.

Also, I've tried 8 with your screen resolution, you don't get snap, but you DO get six rows of tiles on the Start Screen where as widescreen resolutions tend to max out at 4 or 5 rows before you get to a much higher resolution.
