It's the same issue in Windows 7 and Windows 8 for this. Please double check to make sure that you are not missing anything in the steps.

You could also do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this started to hopefully fix it.

Ah, you have updated your last post since I last posted.

What you have is not the "Other User" and last logged on user icon issue. This is why that would not work for this.

By default in Windows 8, it will show the user icon of the last user that logged out. You can click on the left arrow button at the top left corner of your account picture to see all users.

Nope, it can't be modified, but at least you can click on the back arrow to go to what you wanted.
