I went on a trip for the weekend and came back last night (Sunday) to a computer that no longer loads and runs fine anymore. After the login screen when I type my password, everything seems fine and the PC seems to load fine until about 15-30 seconds later where it freezes and will not work after even if I wait an hour. My PC is running Windows 8.1 and if possible, I'd like to at least recover the pictures I have. How can I fix this problem? Please help!!

Johnathan,
Have you tried F8 (or other keystroke per your manufacturer) and using Last Known Good Configuration? Or Safe Mode? If either of those don't get you to desktop you can attempt to boot to utilities on CD/thumbdrive or boot from an 8 disc. You could even remove the HDD as a last resort, and copy from there. I'm also wondering if there is an admin logon you can use.

At least it boots. Not sure why it would hang on logon but I'm sure others know more about the innards of Windows. I'm no expert. I hope that gets you further down the road.

Can you get to t a cmd prompt it can be the profile corrupt you can create a new user from a cmd prompt or if you have another account try logging in with that. You should save photos etc to one drive or google drive then they are safe in the cloud
