My keyboard quit working. Touch any letter & I hear a click. Every key, click. But the letters don't show up.

Luckily, I can use the onscreen keyboard but man, is it slow. When I click on a letter on the onscreen keyboard, I still hear the click but the letter does show up.

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series laptop. I've been having a little trouble with the keyboard for about a month. About once in a sentence when I type a letter, it doesn't type. i.e. keybord. Type it again, it shows up. This occurs with all letters. About once in a sentence, a letter I type will show up twice. i.e. twiice. Sometimes the space button doesn't work. i.e. Sometimesthespacebuttondoesn't work.

Any ideas of what can I try to fix this.

Thank you,
dumdum

Try connecting a USB keyboard and see if that works. In order to get it fixed. You can send it off to Dell and spend almost $300 for a repair covered by repair warranty. Or you can order the keyboard yourself for around $35 and do it yourself.

Some laptops require you to pretty much guy them, to get to the keyboard.

Well, DumDum,
My first question would have to be...."What did you spill on it?".

Any PC repair shop, (NOT Best Buy) that does laptop repair could probably replace that keyboard for you.
I've replaced several on Dell laptops. It's not really all that hard and a new one can be had for $25 to $35.

Good Luck!

PS: I see you're in Florida. If anywhere near Ocala, maybe I could help you.
PM me.

My first answer would have to be.... "I don't think I spilled anything on it." But that did get me to thinking that my wife's cat (whom he and I don't see eye-to-eye) might have peed on the keyboard just to spite me. But that didn't happen.

But while I was sitting at my PC, my cat jumped up on my desk and started to walk on the keyboard. I immediately picked him up and put him on the floor.I turned around and started to type with the keyboard (forgetting that I had been using the 'on-screen keyboard) and the keyboard was working perfectly.

I would like to know if there are any keys that can be pressed to make the keyboard come back from the dead or how do I rent out my kitty to fix broken keyboards with his "Magic Paws"?

Thanks for the input.

My kitty is going to get extra treats and pets tonight.

There is only one company that makes the keyboards now. When mine went out on my laptop. It took a month and about six keyboards, to get one that was not damaged or broke.

They kept men in the loop the whole time, which was great.
