If you do not want history, that will be hard, since every router saves a history of where you visited. The ISP saves a record of what every computer connected to them does.

Sorry I mean I don't care if the Isp remembers history I mean I want to try out things like install programs from majorgeeks etc and then see if I like them, and then just not have to keep going back to my macrium restore before I installed whatever program..

See what Im Saying?

I don't care about the internet history I mean my actual data on the computer

hopefully that's a little more clear as I realized I probably didn't give enough information before..

Thanks

Use a Portable USB app setup. Plenty of regular apps that can be ran as Portable apps on a USB drive.

bro.. come on man.. you know exactly what I mean.. haha.

Ofcourse I know about portable apps..

I want to have something like Sandboxie does so I guess I should just use Sandboxie.. but I was trying to see the user experience with people here if the other programs are better since they all seem to do a slightly different thing..

for example, Sandboxie uses space on your harddrive and just keeps a small box that you can clear out... while Parallells apparently makes an entire new windows install and uses a virtual windows inside your windows..

I was looking to see the user experience of which of the virtual programs that let you run things in it was better for things like trying out programs I wouldn't normally try more quickly as opposed to keep on restoring an image from Macrium..

I think Sandboxie is the answer but I wanted to get feedback on other users that have used Sandboxie and all the other Virtual Softwares out there..

I know what you are doing and gave you the answer. Do not know why you are making this harder on yourself than it really is.

A lot of software that can be installed within an OS, can be ran as a USB Portable App.

What you are wanting to do on your MacBook is something that needs to be discussed on the Mac Forums, not a Windows forum.

If I wanted to leave no trace of what I was doing. I would be using a USB Thumbdrive with the apps I needed, then destroy it after done with it.

Broe23,

Your answer is helpful yes, and I do know some programs are portable and can be run from usb..

Thank you for that.. If that is what my first question asked then yes ok you answered it..

Now let's say I want to try out 3 different Office programs, (liber office, Microsoft Office, and Open Office)

Unless I'm wrong or don't know enough, I assume I can't run those from usb..

Also when I install each of them it will change my registry and add stuff to my local folders etc.. I only have a 250 gig Samsung evo and space is important to me so I don't want leftover from uninstalls etc building up..

etc.. So I believe sandboxie allows me to install things and if I decide I don't like it, I just wipe out that virtual whatever-it's-called temporary space..

I'm looking for that kind of thing so yes your answer is correct but I believe some programs require me to install to use them.. (I think) and the speed of my usb sticks I'm not impressed with.. I'd rather use my SSD..

-Now my question is basically whose used sandboxie vs the other virtual manager programs like parallels or VMware windows... Etc..

Anyhow, yes I think you are correct and I'll just jump into sandboxie and see how it goes compared to the other virtual windows programs only because I don't care to install windows inside of windows..

Oh and I have a Lenovo laptop not a MacBook and I also am not scared or trying to "hide" my tracks.. This was solely to not have to uninstall things and just try them out..

Open Office you can forget, since it has not really been updated lately.

Office if you go with 2016, you have to create a 365 account. Libre, has some issues with page formatting. But it is good for creating PDF's.

If you do not plan on using Visual Basic or .net with the office suite. Personally I would go with Google Docs.

Anything you creat with Google's office suite, is stored on your Google Drive and does not take away from your available space. It is more recognized and easily converts to Microsoft's Office Suite.

They call it an 80/20 rule with how the majority of users use Office. 80% of users only use 20% of the features with Microsoft Office, because they are not power users.

Now you can still get Office 13. If your work or school is a part of the Microsoft HUP Home Use Program), you can score Office pretty cheap. I did that when I got Office 2013, but I rarely used it. Because it was mainly for my son to write papers with, which he ended up just using Google Docs.

Ok great. Google Docs sounds fine, I haven't used that yet.. and it solves space too.. I'll try that.

meanwhile, Sandboxie, as the title of this thread, is going to be used for installing things temporarily.. and then able to just wipe it out if I don't care for it..

I came to this conclusion after thinking about with the "other virtual programs", I would have to still uninstall things in the Virtual windows.. I just want to delete the "box" that sandboxie creates.. quick, fast, and done.. solved..

It would be no different then any other VM. The only issue is that it you activate a product. The activation server keeps track.

I use Crossover on my laptop running Linux Mint. I had to call in to activate both Office 2010 & Nuance PDF creator, so that I could use them.

I never did get into Sandboxie while I was using Windows. Probably because I was not doing certain things.

Bro ?

Activate? I just buy sandboxie yes, then activate sandboxie and then use it to try whatever I want and not have to care about it changing my system..

Sandboxie is a total complete temporary space so I wouldn't be activating anything inside it as its meant for being completely erased at any moment I believe..

That's all I'm trying to achieve here!

If I use virtual whatever else program I have to install windows virtually and deal with all that..

Sandboxie is amazing - or so I'm about to find out..

I know. I just never saw a need to use it, when I always have an extra machine laying around to play with and break things on.

Office suites are the hardest thing to find one that is one fits all, across the board for different Operating Systems.

There is always going to be someone out there that wants you to use Office. Because they are afraid of the free options.

well I'm into trying Google docs..

If I had another system to just break, I definitely would.. I do have an old desktop but it's just to slow for me to struggle with trying things..

So now only my laptop is worth trying things on.. I now have an i7 quad core, 16 gigs ram , SSD.. Etc

I just got lucky with getting the one that I got. In-laws get a new desktop. I always get their old system.

It does come in handy when I need to have a live feed going for something that I can only see online, along with using the laptop.
