    List of Media Foundation-compatible codecs?

Metro applications do not support DirectShow, which is what is used for all current third party codecs. This sucks, because my ideal Windows 8 setup (as a HTPC) REQUIRES the metro apps to be able to handle my .MKVs and subtitles. I could probably convert them all to Windows 8 native codecs, but that takes forever and I can't guarantee the quality will be as good (let alone the subtitles still work).

Anyone know of any useable third party Media Foundation codecs? Thanks.

    What I need:
    MKV support
MPEG 2 and MPEG 1 support would be nice
Subtitle support, either by .srt files or intergrated.

Metro is not designed for this. Microsoft will be offering an upgrade option to include Windows Media Center, which will work outside of Metro just like it did in Windows 7. This upgrade will be pretty cheap, $10 or so I think (but don't quote me on that).

Where did you get that Metro is not designed for this? Media Foundation IS replacing DirectShow in Metro applications.

    DirectShow and Windows 8??

I Don't want WMC because Metro can replace it, and the Media Pack does not include MKV and subtitle support.
