Help reloading win 8 system fonts

I have an asus x550L laptop running windows 8.

My system fonts got corrupted somehow and now on the desktop and other areas I can only see boxes and symbols. I may have added in too many duplicate fonts, also I was doing a job for a client with supplied fonts and I may have mistakenly clicked on some file, think it was 'adobe font list.x something'

In C>windows>fonts there are still 4 fonts Terminal Bold and Regular, Fixedsys Regular and System Bold, which I can't delete. There are no previously existing font files on the computer.

I downloaded a clean set of win 8 system fonts and unzipped to my desktop.

I can't replace the the font folder with the one on my desktop and I can't copy and paste the fonts into the folder, it comes up with an error message (which I can't read as it's all boxes etc).

Any ideas? I really don't want to do a refresh. Everything else is fine.

I think you can just double click on each font to install it, but not sure.

You could also run sfc /scannow from a Elevated Command Prompt. That should fix any corrupted fonts.

Even better would be to run these in sequence:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    SFC /scannow
