That's what happens when there is a distinct lack of competition. Windows 8.1 will be my last microsoft product if they stay the course.

Either that, or I can imagine a scenario with Windows 11.. 12...13 where they track and record everything the computer is capable of recording.. then, one of two things will happen.. Either congress will step in to stop it, or private parties will develop software to disable it.

What I'd like to know is: At what point does it become illegal wire tapping? Or stalking?

Commander,
Everything you mentioned can be shut OFF, under Settings.
There have been multiple posts on the Windows 10 forums about that, and step by step procedures for disabling/plugging all the Security Holes.

I've printed out all the fixes and have them in a file folder. On a fresh Windows 10 install, it takes me about an hour to go through all the fixes, before I can even install "The Classic Shell" to get back my Programs Menu and make Win-10 look and act more like Windows 7.

Personally, I'm still running Windows 8.1 Pro/32 as my main OS. I doubt there will ever be anything that can make me upgrade to Windows 10.
Yes, Windows 10 is a Minefield, but those mines CAN be disabled.

I've told my customers, who ask about buying a new PC with Windows 10 on it, "when you get the PC home, don't even try to install it, call me and I'll install it for you and fix it so it will look just like your old PC".:geek:

commander: I agree with TechnoMage -- and have all the tracking stuff disabled in Win10. You can do it manually, or there are apps out there that will do it for you. One I used was Destroy Windows 10 Spying and it's a free download. Also, even though I have Win10, and was an Insider from practically the first day, I have become very disappointed in the largely cosmetic changes in Win10 and now, hardly every use it.

Private parties already HAVE stepped in. There are several products out there now that will disable the telemetry collection in Win10. One I have used is Destroy Windows 10 Spying. It's freeware and is available for downloading.

At what point does it become illegal wire tapping? Or stalking?
Unfortunately, NEVER. Why? Because by installing Win10, you consented to the terms of the EULA, and in there, and associated policy publications, MS obtained your permission to collect information. MS even claims that they have the right to disable anything you install that gets in their way. But, with the tool I used, it's not actually an installed application, so there's nothing to remove. All it does is change settings.

Unless you leave it at default settings, yes Microsoft is going to get your browsing history, etc. The Camera and Microphone have always been able to be used by programs and applications, way before 10 came out. Location tracking is not what you think that it is. It is used to update the Weather app if you are using, same as any other apps that are set as Live.

You do realize that every time you read your email online, etc., The party that made the browser, along with your ISP and every Backbone along the way, knows what you are doing, regardless of what Operating System or device you are using.

are you serious? we used to have the right to click on little boxes that allowed everybody to say no to what ever we did not want. what ever happened to that. well, I found the place on this pc that allowed me to go back to 8.1 with in 30 seconds I had clicked on it. so here I am.
but this 10 one is solved.

so now I just need to get the other one fixed. it's posted somewhere else. this intel will not stop saving everything over and over again and now has over 8000 events that has clogged up the whole system. and I can't delete the events or turn off intel.
