Hey peeps,

So, my desktop PC is packed up and being shipped back to the service centre tomorrow to fix a faulty HDD.

While this happens, I'm using my Toshiba Z40-A W8.1 laptop....but....its been working fine for a year until to tonight...

I've had a BSOD, found the recovery disk, reconfigured the BIOS for UEFI boot/Secure boot (as per the instructions), and inserted disk 1/2 into the external disk drive.

Despite selecting the option to boot from ODD, but I keep getting the error "insert system disk and hit any key". :(

Any ideas what the problem might be? I'm flummoxed, and the missus without a computer is like an addiction without their fix!!

Thanks in advance.

Chris

What do you mean by "inserted disk 1/2 into the external disk drive". Do you have an external USB DVD drive? Are you saying it boots straight to BSOD when booting the OS normally? Your post has me a bit confused, although not hard to do.

Can't rule out a bad disc either. May have to download the ISO and install.

Sorry, the laptop does the have an opportunity board dvd drive, hence why I'm using an external one. The drive is only USB powered, but is making noises like it's trying to read the disk. I was referring to disk 1 of 2,as well.

Yes, the laptop boots straight into the BSOD, stating tha required file is missing or corrupt.

Just walked dog crap into the house too, so they evening is only getting worse! ;)

When in BIOS does the boot options show the actual external DVD drive as an option? It should and not be just a blank line next to USB or DVD.

Lol on the dog crap, sorry. :) Been there done that!

Yes, it does. Weird huh? Original Toshiba system disks too. Gonna try copying them to USB stick and booting from that instead, in the hope that might do something.

Really pissed that I've only just installed Acronis True image on the laptop, so have a backup but stupidly forgot to create rescue media too. :(
