OS upgrades

I just realized this, ipads have free OS updates. If you buy a 500 dollar ipad, you're guaranteed at least a couple of free new OS upgrades.

Windows 8 doesn't.

This could be an issue for Microsoft in the tablet front, especially the WinRT tablets. If one buys a 4 or 500 dollar WinRT tablet, they aren't guaranteed Windows 9. They will be if they pay for it. And if one does, that tacked on at least 100 dollars to the cost of probably a tech degraded WinRT tablet.

Probably not good...

You have to take note that Apple releases a new OS for iPad every year
Microsoft releases around every third year
And when Microsoft releases a new OS (Like WIndows 9) it probably will work on most of the tablets running Win 8
But Apple starts cutting of functions allready from the first OS upgrade and after around 3 upgrades the cut the support totally

I remember when the app store came out on ios, the first generation iusers, myself at the time included, had to pay 10 dollars to upgrade to it. Since then, there have been no fees for updates.

Then again, it is blasphemous to charge for a unix/Linux OS....
