Solved Get rid of that pesky "Get Windows 10" icon from taskbar

This is the easiest way to get rid of the icon. You can right-click on the date/time in Taskbar system tray and select "Customize notification icons" option. It'll open a new window. Now look for GWX (Get Windows 10) entry in the list and change its value to "Hide icon and notifications" using the drop-down box.



Apply the changes and it'll hide the White Windows flag icon in Taskbar notification area.

If you want to get rid of It you need to uninstall update KB3035583 as that is the main part of the GWX Upgrade process. You may hide the notification for a while but the application is still running and the notification will return. There are other ways to disable the function through Task Scheduler but uninstalling KB3035583 takes care of most everything. It also depends on what your intentions are re: upgrading to W10. If you don't want W10 right away then you should get rid of it and if you have a reservation in you won't have much wriggle room when your number is up.

Uninstalling KB3035583 is just a waste of time because it just come down again with the next updates and you find that you have a daily task at hand.
At least the above method in the first post, you don't have to deal with every darned day.

You would want to hide it afterwards so it won't be available anymore.

That is what I have done with some other KB files as there have been a few that ppl say will free you from Win 10 stuff that you don't want to see anymore.
