This a.m. I was going to use the Snipping Tool in Windows Pro 8.1. A blue banner appeared telling me the program would not work with my OS. I located the file and made a shortcut to it, but the same blue banner appeared. I've had this to happen before with Word and Publisher, but I made another shortcut and that solved it. This time it hasn't. Any suggestions?

Do you somehow have the snipping tool form an earlier or later version of Windows installed?

Win 8.1 Pro comes with the snipping tool and I wonder if somehow you are trying to invoke one that came with a different version of Windows that is incompatible with Win 8.1. When you located the file, was it found in the Windows\System32 folder?

thanks for the reply. Sadly, I spent several hours trying to figure out what happened. The file was no where to be found. The only thing I found close to in was a file named SnippingToolexe.ink That one would not work. It gave me the blue banner. The only Snipping Tool I have used has been with Window 8.1 which I've had since it came out. I did update several files a couple of days ago and wonder if one of the updates didn't inadvertently destroy it? I finally thought of going to my wife's laptop, downloaded the app and put it on my computer. That worked and I'm happy, but still don't know why it happened. Thanks again.
