I did a windows 8 update a few days ago and since then my home computer has been waking itself up from hibernation at night when it should remain hibernating.

I tried the below, and apparently it's telling me that a task got scheduled. How do I get rid of this thing starting up by itself?

Thanks

c:\windows\system32> powercfg waketimers
Timer set by service\device\harddiskvolume two ...........etc...
Reason: windows will execute 'NT task\remediation\antimalwaremigrationtask' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.

I did that a while ago - I had previously disabled all the auto maintenance and updating, and there was nothing in there to cause this. This is something that happened as part of the latest win 8.1 update.

I've been googling on this and this "antimalwaremigrationtask" thing may be something that my AV program (Norton)
did during a recent change they did to their software that was coincident w/ my last Win 8.1 maintenance.

Whatever the source, it's damned aggravating.

I probably was able to fix this - the computer didn't start up on its own last night for the first time.

1) Using command prompt: c:\windows\system32> powercfg waketimers
Timer set by service\device\harddiskvolume two ...........etc...
Reason: windows will execute 'NT task\remediation\antimalwaremigrationtask' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.
2) I googled "antimalwaremigrationtask" and saw some stuff indicating the source is Norton AV.
3) I got into Task Scheduler (through control panel) and found some Norton stuff that looked like it might be the cause; I disabled it, and last night the computer stayed in hibernation.

I hope this helps other people plagued w/ this time consuming crap.

I have Windows 7 x64, but the problem with NAV is still the same. I chatted with Norton and after much flogging around, we found the solution: Settings/Task Scheduling/Scheduling tab change from "Automatic (recommended)" to "Manual". Ensure that the Norton icon is visible in the task bar tray. Whenever the Norton icon changes from a green check to a red exclamation mark, double click on the icon and perform the requested operation.

There are other sources for wake-ups, and they are addressed by Erwin Dunbar in the following article:
