When my windows 8 laptop is sleeping, I currently need to press the power button, which is awkwardly small and on the edge side of the laptop. I'd like to wake my laptop from sleep with a keypress.
I went into the keyboard settings but can't find a check box or setting that allows the internally connected keyboard to wake the system.

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8
    Computer type
    PC/Desktop
    System Manufacturer/Model
    Dell
Open an elevated command prompt and type this command
powercfg /DeviceEnableWake "keyboarddevice as shown in DeviceManager"

First you need to open device manager and copy exactly the device name and put it in double quotes

To see what devices may wake the system do this command
powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

If the first command worked one of the devices should be the keyboard.
