I just got a lenovo z50 for my dad and am setting the computer up for him.
There is a strange visual bug I can't seem to resolve regarding the context menu icons on the taskbar
context_menu_icon_bug.jpg
You can see it right here in the attached screenshot the close and pin icons are huge and look out of place. I've tried changing dpi settings, resolution settings, changing themes, text size settings.

Note really sure what else to do.

Anyone have a clue? would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.

What third party software are you running if any (i.e. Classic Shell or Start8)? Usually you see that kind of issue also from the software that the OEM's install. Lenovo uses their own, just like Toshiba does for desktop management.

Hi, I am also experiencing this problem... It is very annoying, I reset my laptop yesterday to a factory install of Windows 8.1 and the taskbar issue happened so I reset 2 more times and I just got exactly the same result.

I also had a weird placement of icons on the taskbar as well, there was a photos shortcut, control panel, documents and a "this pc" shortcut too... Did anyone else experience this?

I would also like to add that this is a 100% fresh install, which I have already done in the past 2 or 3 times and this is a brand new issue which has come up... I have not installed any software at all on to my laptop yet.

Not using any 3rd party software. I guess this is Lenovos doing? I tried deleting thumbnail and icon cache files too.. IconCache_xx.db and that didn't solve it either.

Maybe I should just upgrade to windows 10. I'm thinking of getting the windows 10 iso and doing a clean install. Might be better for wiping all of lenovos stupidity.

On a side note.. can anyone tell me what these OEMs gain by spending all this money and developing crappy software like Lenovo Photo gallery or similar?

Lenovo like I stated before, uses a software for desktop, etc. First off we need everyone that is having this issue to split off and make separate threads, because it can be messy.

If all of you stay on this post, it is fine, just make sure you place in the first line who you are replying to, vs quoting.

If all of you can first check Programs and Features, look for any software loaded that has Lenovo in the name. If I recall from the one I just set up, there was something like six items.

You are looking for anything related to the desktop assist.

Guys,

As I stated in this post, it is one update when refreshing Windows with internet on. Just refresh without internet and you will be fine.

PS.: probably, it's the Windows 10 (the upgrade warning during installation) related update.

See ya.

Hi there,

As stated by archtop in this thread, the exact problem is the KB3072318. Just remove it, reboot and it's all fine again...just too late for me! :p

See ya!

cetjunior that is what is driving me crazy. I have not seen it our two laptops running 8 & the new Lenovo that my mother in law just got.

Does it also do it in Safe Mode? What GPU is on your machine? If you kill all of the Lenovo software, does it do it?

Also stuff can carry over from your Microsoft log in to the other machine, unless you used a local account.

That is from Lenovo's desktop assist that they wrapped into the OS as I stated before. If it is an OEM edition, it should not be happening.
