Win 8.1 stuck on automatic repair after Win 10 downgrade

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday, and after messing around with it, I decided to downgrade and go back to Windows 8.1. After the Windows 10 upgrade, I got a message saying that the version of AVG free I had installed would need to be reinstalled. I went ahead and uninstalled AVG through the programs and features window. After uninstalling it, I went to my Program Files and deleted the AVG folder to remove all traces of the program. Unfortunately, I did not restart my computer once the uninstall was complete as I figured I would have to restart it once the downgrade finished anyways. I started the downgrade process and everything seemed to go smoothly. After the downgrade installation, the computer rebooted and it automatically went into the "Automatic repair/Diagnosing PC" screen. I tried running the startup repair but I always end up getting the Windows was unable to repair your problem type of message. I tried booting into safe mode but the screen automatically goes into the automatic repair screen. I tried disabling the screen via cmd "bcdedit /set recoveryenabled NO" but I get an error saying :

"The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors/

File:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\avgboota.sys
Error code: 0xc000000f"

I have a feeling that uninstalling AVG and manually deleting the folder from the Program Files and not restarting before the downgrade might be triggering the error. My first thought was to try to boot into safe mode and on msconfig only boot using system drivers, but unfortunately I cannot get into safe mode no matter what. Is there anything I can do? My other thought was to try to install AVG on another computer, navigate to "\Windows\system32\DRIVERS" and copy the "avgboota.sys" from that computer onto my broken one via SATA to USB cable connecting the HDD externally to a working computer to be able to access these files.

Any suggestions? I really don't want to reset/refresh or do a clean install of Windows ):

I have but all the threads/articles are for errors giving the "A Required device isn't connected or can't be accessed" message. Mine says "The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors"

That is why I made a Image of my install, if I needed to roll it back, which I had to the other night, when the system locked up on me and crashed.

Unless you have a backup somewhere, you may have to do a Repair install of the OS.

The same exact thing happened to me today. After wasting several hours of my life, I found option 8 in the safe mode startup settings: "Disable early launch anti-malware protection." 10 seconds later, my Windows 8.1 downgrade appeared like some kind of Harry Potter magic. All I can say is both AVG and Microsoft can kiss my karma. Even though my laptop is "fixed," it's getting replaced by a non-windows product.

So that was my situation - hope this helps you out.

There is a lot of elder hardware that will never be compatible with Windows 10. There is also a lot of third party software that is still not ready for Windows 10, so it has to be ran in Windows 8 compatibility mode.

I would just stick with Windows 8.1 at this point. If you do want to jump out of the collective, there is Linux Mint and also Xubuntu, if you do not have a need to use iTunes.
