Hi all

Looking for some help with an odd problem that has just started on my Windows 8.1 64bit system.

If i want to un-install a program via Control Panels programs & features the usual Un-install/Modify option is no longer showing, and if I right click on the program although un-install is then shown clicking on it just gives an error message about it probably being already un installed and do I want to remove the entry from the list

Anyone know why this should have just happened and how to fix it, hopefully without having to do a clean install.

Thanks for any help with this

Paul

This happens when the registry entry for the uninstallation of the software has been incorectly configured, or damaged.

This can also happen when an uninstallation utility fails to clear the entries in the registry during or after a software uninstallation.

Without manually looking into the rergistry, and confirming whether or not the software exists on the computer still, there is no way to know whether or not the software was uninstalled.

There are a few tools which can uninstall software, and locate any left over files and registry entries. This is the best alternative to manually inspecting the offending entry.

Revo Uninstaller has a free version which can uninstall 32-bit applications. Their pro version isn't worth paying $40 for though.

Hi

Thanks for the reply

All the programs shown in Control Panel are still installed and all working and were an uninstall option is shown in the Start menu entry that does still work it just control panel that is not working correctly.

Will look into a third party option.

Perhaps this will be fixed when Windows 10 is released in a couple of days time

Paul80 Control Panel is a group of shortcuts to various programs that deal with certain OS settings. Programs & Features is just one of those programs linked to a shortcut in the Control Panel.

If you are having issues uninstalling something. Normally if you reinstall the program, then do an uninstall, it will go away. Or use something like Revo Uninstaller, it can usually fix the issue and uninstall the troublesome program. Last resort is going to the proper program file directory and deleting the folder, while you are in safe mode. Then going into the registry and removing all entries for that program, which is always a last resort.

Let's try editing your local group policy:

1. Press WINDOWS + R keys on your keyboard.
2. Type "gpedit.msc" then press ENTER.
3. Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
4. Double-click the option: "Hide change or remove programs page".
5. Set to Not Configured.
6. Hit Apply then click Ok.

If this still does not work, then your last option is to use Revo Uninstaller Pro.
