Solved OS won't boot on Dell Inspiron 3520

hello, on my teacher's laptop, the OS which is Windows 8.1 won't start. It says "Please select proper boot device". But when I select "UEFI: Windows Boot Loader" on Boot menu when pressing f12 and it boots. but when I didn't select on boot menu it just shows the error. Please help.

Get yourself a Windows 8.1 installation disc or USB flash drive.

Boot with that, and use the recovery options to repair the ESP.

Thank you for your reply. But I've just reinstalled the OS and the problem still exists; and I've noticed that the settings in BIOS was never saved. Secure-Boot disables when turning off the PC and resets the Legacy mode.

I misunderstood your question, my apologies.

Let me ask a few questions to be sure I understand correctly.

Windows is currently installed as UEFI or Legacy?

When you change BIOS settings, and save then exit (F10). They automatically revert back to the old settings reboot?
