My first post on here. My daughter and I have different laptops and she is frustrated with hers and wants mine. So we are going to switch, however, when I log on to mine and she hers, I basically are logging on to my main email address. How do I go about switching these laptops and have the opposite information on each laptop? There aren't many documents on either laptops so I will switch those a different way. Any help is deeply appreciated. thanks

It really depends on what OS is on the other laptop and what email program she was using. Along with who she uses for her email (i.e. gmail, yahoo, etc.).

Without that key info, it is hard to help.

Personally she may be better off using the web portal vs desktop email. Especially if she uses a Smartphone and/or tablet.

This article may be helpful if both Laptops have 32 or 64 bit Windows:
Transferring Everything From One Laptop to Another | Chron.com

Since they are two different Laptops just making an image of the entire drive for each machine and swapping the OS and the whole shooting match will not likely work due to driver differences. The long way around would be to make a new user account on each machine, install software and data files. Then when the accounts are all set up and working, delete the original accounts. Make sure the new account is in the Administrator group or type so that it can do thing like install software etc.. If you have enough room on the drives you might leave the old accounts on for some time in case you remember a file or something you forgot to copy. It is password protected after all. But you may want to look into creating the real admin account on both machines so you have total control.

There may be 3rd party software that makes it easier to move accounts but I don't think there is much of a market for it. You could try some of the large freeware download sites like Softpedia - Free Downloads Encyclopedia and SnapFiles freeware and shareware downloads and reviews, trusted for quality since 1997

Note: The other fly in the ointment for doing it the easy way and just imaging the HDs and reverse restoring them is Windows is keyed to the serial number or id of the motherboard on each machine if the PC came preloaded with Windows. If you did restore it would probably boot to a black screen when it did not get the expected motherboard id. If you installed from retail media yourself it might work if the machines were similar enough.

She can stay as is. If she is using a Desktop email program, she will have to follow the instructions to export out to import into the new unit. Like I stated before. It is a lot easier in these kind of situations to always leave the emails on the server, never save to the desktop program.

The Lenovo Desktop I just set up for my wife's step-mom this past weekend. I had to Cut and attach all of the emails that were on the Microsoft Essentials email program, into a new email, so that I could pull them out into Outlook 2k13. Contacts I had to export as .cvs format and then import back into Outlook 2k13 in that format.

Other than that, it was pretty smooth going, until she wondered why I was taking so long. 6 mb/s DSL is not quite as fast when you are downloading 137 updates for a brand new setup.

If she is installing programs with purchased licenses on the new machine. Run Speccy, which you can download either from majorgeeks.com or piriform.com/speccy It will show all Licenses for all software on her computer.
