I got Windows 8.1. I'm having a very difficult time at times copying and pasting text from Word, Chrome, and other files. For example, there are times when I copy a sentence in Word and try to paste it in another Word doc. But its like Windows never saves the copied info. Is there a fix or patch to this?

Try booting in Safe Mode and see if it is normal. If so then there may be a program that is messing up the clipboard. It may not be malware. It may just use the clipboard and have a bug. Process of elimination in that case.

If it doesn't work in Safe Mode then I would do a malware scan with MBAM free version.

I tried it on safe mode and the issue persists intermittently. And no, iys not malware. This issue is affecting tons of people who use Win 8.1.

I just dont understand why microsoft could make a great blunder like this that should have a very simple fix. Microsoft doesnt get it. When it starts losing revenue and profit to other, better capable o/s's, you'll know why.

I need copy and paste to work ALL THE TIME, not intermittently. Any solutions to this issue?

1st I've heard of this problem. Did a Google search and some people are seeing this. Several reported it was their Anti-virus software that was causing it. WebRoot was mentioned in several.

What AV do you use? Disable or uninstall it then test and see how it works. If okay, switch to another AV or use the built in Windows Defender.

Which one did you use?

A. CTRL + C (copy) and CTRL + V (paste) shortcut keys
- possible keyboard issues

B. Select text to copy, right-click then click Copy (Copy). Right-click on another document then do a paste?
- possible that you did not highlight the items to copy
- possible that copying text from a source file is not allowed (especially text on pdf files)

If not av I would suspect a clipboard utility.

Are you serious? Tell me youre joking.

If not av I would suspect a clipboard utility.

Its possible. I use Ditto which is a clipboard tool which I need badly. But I dont think thats it. I'll turn it off and see. But I seriously doubt this is the culprit since the program depends solely on Windiws clipboard. Plus, many Win 8.1 users complain about this issue and I'm 99% sure they dont run Ditto.

I use a MS Surface 3 (the newer- cheaper vrs). Never had a problem with cut/paste.

Look in your computer Mfg website for newer, updated drivers for 8.1.
