Corrupt .File extension files

Hi,

I went to my hosts file to add some new entries and noticed the file type was "downloadkeepit" instead of .File I believe. I checked and noticed that every file which is supposed to have .file extension has this malware extension under it. I ran a full scan using anti-malware malware bytes software and it did detect corrupt entries and deleted them but still no change.

I tried using the fix for default extensions but that didn't help either.

I did a system restore to the earliest point possible but neither did that help. I have attached a screenshot of what it actually looks like.

Note : There is no sign of this software (Downloadkeepit) or any other malicious malware under "uninstall programs" and I have removed all suspicious addons / extensions from all my browsers.

How to Remove Downloaditkeep Virus and Stop Pop-ups | DooFix Official Blog A quick Goggle found lots of articles and threads on this virus.

You may be able to remove it. but be prepared to format and clean install. Maybe disconnect your data drive or drives. Leave them disconnected until you complete a clean install, install good AV IS something that will actually protect you. Update your new windows install completely. Then hook up your DATA Drives and let your AV IS software clean up any remnants of the virus.

I have no Idea perhaps someone else will. Good quality AV or IS program may be able to remove this virus you will need to work with the techs from that software!! The easy solution is to format and reinstall and use quality Anti Virus or Internet Security program to prevent this from returning.
