I'm very much a novice when it comes for tech stuff, so if I posted this in the wrong place/irritate people with my cluelessness, sorry.
This issue started when I was restarting my Lenovo Y50-70 laptop after a Windows 8.1 update about 2 weeks ago. I'm only getting a black screen after the Lenovo logo. Initially, there's no cursor, but it shows up after 5-6 hours. Otherwise, it's still a black screen. Ctrl-Alt-Del (or any other key combos) doesn't work. The only response I get at this stage is Sticky Keys.
I could get into Advanced Recovery Options using Shift-F8 once, and I tried to restore to an earlier point (I installed two new programs before the update). But the restore failed; I don't remember the exact error message, but it mentioned something about something being corrupt, and running chkdsk. That was the last time I was able to access the menu, and since then F5/F8 combos don't work. I tried Safe Mode before the restore, but it didn't do anything different either. The only thing I can do now is access the BIOS.
Again, I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff, so I'm not sure if there's anything from the BIOS I can try, or whether this is a hardware issue (because of the corrupt/chkdsk thing) or a software one. I don't have any installation media/recovery drives at hand, and I won't really have access to a computer where I can make one until August (I'm not at home). Any help is much appreciated though.
