After using a reg cleaner, now some of my internal links to MS programs aren't working. See arrow pointing to Windows update flag (right click works, but clicking on a link does nothing) and links circled in red in "Firewall settings"...clicking on does nothing.
Id put money on it that the reg cleaner cleared some registry info that effected those links. That is why using a reg cleaner is so risky as it can have unexpected effects like that. I avoid using them any more than once a month myself and always make a backup of the registry before applying any changes so it can be reverted should something like this happen. The only thing I can suggest is that you use system restore and revert it to a point before using the reg cleaner. See if the reg cleaner you used has a rollback function to undo any changes it made. Other than that, I really wouldn't know what to tell you.
Yeah that's what I was afraid of...might have to do a "System Refresh"...I never had a problem with CCleaners reg cleaner, guess I should have stayed with it instead of trying this other one out. But, I got all excited when it said it found 3,500 reg errors. I thought to myself, "wow, I didn't know my reg was that bad!"
You should always avoid things like that when it seems too good (or too bad as in this case) to be true or make sense. I would have questioned that big time. Now you know. I also have used CCleaner many times without issue. You might also want to look into Glary Utilities.
I know, it just "sounded" good, cleaning my machine of 3,500 errors. It even said it could also "compact" the registry on top of cleaning it. Oh well, I learned my lesson. Off to do a "System Refresh" and have this problem done with.
