How do I get windows 8 back

I recently changed the os of my laptop to ubuntu 14.04 and i decided its not the optimal os for me, I have been trying to get back to windows 8 but I don't know how.

Make and model of laptop ? If came with Windows 8, know if it has a recovery partition to reset back to factory settings when bought or did it come with a OS disc. ? Check in Disk Management, find link on Start button in desktop by right clicking, might show if there is a recovery partition, if so hopefully did not erase it or have a win8 disc.

Grab your system restore Discs and reinstall the OEM image from the discs.

No need for that. They just need the System Restore discs, that they should have made when they first got their system. If not, they will have to order them from the computer mfg.

This is why I always make a disc image, before swapping back and forth between OS's.

System restore disc ? Similar to recovery discs, same thing you mean ? Mean there had to be a recovery partition on drive to begin with, if did not make discs as you said............
Probably wiped the recovery in process of other OS.

jds63 when you install Linux, regardless of what distro you use. It wipes the whole drive, unless you want to take the time to create a partition on your hard drive with Windows installed, to place the distro there.

There is no such thing as a Recovery partition as I just stated above, when you install Linux. All you can do is use the discs you made when you got the computer. That is if you took the time to do so. Same with making a drive image, which I use Clonezilla to place the images on my Lenovo ix2-4 NAS.

If the OP did nothing but decided they wanted to try Linux, but did not make the drive image of 8, they are pretty well up the river.

I use Xubuntu 15.04 with no issues. Probably the better Ubuntu flavors out there. If I need Windows 8. I just grab my wife's laptop, which is the same model of Toshiba Satellite, that I have.

well i lack knowledge on Linux. My last PC with Windows 7 had a partition to recover to factory settings and make recovery discs from, all i recall from then.

If you actually installed Linux (instead of running it from, say, a Live CD), any recovery partition you might have had will be gone. If you have no recovery discs, I think your only options are to see if the computer manufacturer will provide them, or to purchase a copy of Windows.
