Solved Watch that space ! A question or two :) on the W10 upgrade
Firstly... and this is all pure speculation. Just thinking aloud.
So, I got to thinking, as you do
about the forthcoming W10 release and how we might be aware of its imminent arrival as the date approaches. There is going to be a lot of bandwidth used to deploy this to goodness knows how many machines......
And so I wondered if a clue could be in watching our C drive free space on 'qualifying machines' and seeing if it starts to drop as perhaps files get loaded in preparation for the event. That would ease the load on servers dramatically.
Could something like that happen do you think ? and if it did (
remember this is all speculation and thought ) then how would those not set to automatically update go on ?

Thanks Shawn :thumb: that sort of confirms it then. So we just might actually see disc space being used between now and the 29th July as files are added.
I have Windows Update set to notify only and so I'm assuming that would not stop any upgrade files coming down the wire so to speak. I'll be honest, I haven't reserved mine as yet, I don't know whether to jump now or wait and see.
All good stuff.

Thanks Shawn.
Its a bit of a case of 'I used to be undecided but now I'm not so sure'. I've got 8.1 so 'sorted' to my needs that I'm a bit reluctant I suppose. I genuinely like what I have.
On the other hand though, of course I'll want a play and want to be in on it all too... so I might put my currently unused original W7 Dell OEM back on this PC nearer the time and just bring it up to qualifying spec to allow an upgrade. That would leave my retail 8.1 license free to be reinstalled on my older laptop... either to use as 8.1 or upgrade.

Its a 3yr old Dell Vostro. Core i5 and with the latest (W8.1) BIOS update. I just downloaded the ISO file from your link above and used 'ISOTOUSB' to make a bootable USB drive. The same method works fine on my nine yr old Acer (lol)

If you haven't already, you might see if using Rufus to create the USB may work better on the Dell.
