Whenever it's been asleep for any length of time, when I wake it up I get a dialog-"App to open this file".
Clicking Notepad I get "Cannot find C:\Program.txt Create one?"
There is no Program.txt. Anyone have an idea what's trying to open this?

Malwarebytes, Premium paid version, full scan - nothing.
AdwCleaner - nothing
HijackThis -results available on request, not that long a file.
Currently doing full scan Windows Defender.
Assuming it finds nothing any more ideas?
Not a fan of resource hogging virus detectors. Don't visit dodgy web sites. Haven't installed any 'codecs'.

Edit: Defender found nothing.

My best guess is that there is a hiccup in one of your monitoring and/or reporting programs that appears to generate a Programs.txt file.

Download and run ProcessExplorer. It does not need to be installed.

Drag-and-drop target to find an image. If you're not sure which application corresponds to which image in Process Explorer, click and drag the little gun sight icon on the Process Explorer toolbar, and drop it on any visible window to find out what process/image it is.

Once the "App to open this file" popup is on the screen, start ProcessExplorer and drag the target icon and drop it on the popup window. It will show the process that generated that window highlighted in blue in the PE window.

What is listed in the Startup tab for Task Manager. You may also have to look at the Run & Run Once folders in RegEdit, for both Local Machine & User.

HitmanPro came up with 8 "traces" which were deleted. Anything else will have to wait til I'm off work at noon.
Downloaded ProcessExplorer, looks promising.

igfxTray is from Intel. It puts an icon in the System Tray that is not needed.

CCleaner Monitor you disable from CCleaner, Options then Monitoring.

Well it came up again this afternoon and the instant I tried to start ProcessExplorer it vanished so that wont work.
Currently uninstalling a few things I installed and cleaning out some HP crud so will see what happens.

Use Revo Uninstaller. Majorgeeks.com has a good cleanup guide. The MG tool is a little dated, but still works.

The guide is in the Malware forum, titled "Read me first".

I have had to use Farbar's tools from bleepingcomputer.com on one machine, along with those from the MG guide. It took me a day on one machine that was not badly infected & screwed up.

The other one was a nightmare. It took around three days to get it completely cleaned. It belonged to my next door neighbor who passed away last year.

I had to get it cleaned from bugs, because there were things on there for her estate. Otherwise I would have just nuked it and sent it off to who they gave it to.

Revo is better than the built-in uninstaller? Or CCleaner's?

Edit: Ok, just visited Revo's site. Bought the Pro version.

I like the Pro version a lot more than the free. Good program.
