Locked desktop until relogin

Hi guys,

I don't have BSOD, but upon login entire desktop remains inaccessible - no mouse hover or click work in any area. After Ctrl+Alt+Del+Cancel, desktop access is restored, but started software shows problems, like IE scrolling is blocked by any means, Charms Bar won't show up when hovering corners, etc. The login screen is also locked 1st time for mouse (mouse works, but depressing buttons doesn't cause any change), but after logout and re-login to the same acc everything works as it should.

That begun right after install and reboot of recent bad publicized optional Windows Updates, which now don't show Uninstall option, and the previous Restore Point won't show up anymore. I run sfc /scannow and DISM, fixed all broken files, but this issue remains, and feels like broken security permissions related. Newly created accounts also have this issue.

Question: is it possible for a user to troubleshot and debug, and how? I don't want to reinstall the system or refresh if only possible.

It could also be an update that screwed things up. If there are no files on the unit worth keeping, your only choice may be a wipe & restore.

:ditto: it sounds broken. You might check the versions of your hardware drivers the update could have installed a generic where you need a specific driver for your notebook. Check your Audio, Video, LAN WiFi stuff like that. Maybe could bail you out if you find one that's not right.

There're no recent driver updates. Can't reinstall system and all packages after every Windows update, need to debug instead. :)
