Prevent deleting files permamently on SD card ?

My SD card doesn't have a recycle bin. It functions as a local drive (because I don't have enough HDD space in my tablet), therefore I need a solution so that I won't accidentally lose data forever.

I tried iBin (v2.9a) but it has an error:
Can't load icon. The current thread will exit.
Specifically: D:\iBin.exe
Line#
062: Menu,TRAY,Icon,%A_ScriptDir%\iBin.exe,1
(It currently doesn't have a solution, I know other people complain it too: The Portable Freeware Collection - iBin)

Any solution will be helpful, such as a utility to make windows send all files to any temp folder instead of deleting them.
I'll be glad if you can help.

instead of mounting it as a local disk, with a drive letter.. Mount is as a folder on your C drive

You might want to format your SD card as NTFS.
Do a backup of data and perform a format.

NOTE: Formatting your SD card without a back up will wipe out it's contents permanently

I did both things. Didn't help. Mounting still deletes permanently and after formatting to NTFS also.

You also need to enable that option by right clicking on recycle bin.
SD card needs to be inserted into PC while right clicking on recycle bin.

I'm afraid the SD card does not support that feature then, but at least it will show you "Confirmation dialog" telling you that you are about to delete a file.

I know.. still I'm worried because I'm used to ignore that message - because I only see it when emptying the recycle bin - and that I do when I'm aware of it being deleted permanently..

I can maybe make a script that when a delete event happens the selected files/folders will be sent to temp directory instead of the recycle bin. You know how can i handle a delete event via windows script?

You do not have to right click when you insert the SD card. Only way to keep files on it from being deleted is having a Pro version of Windows 8 installed, to set a policy to not allow users to do that, then use a Limited login, not an administrator when using the notebook.

It automatically will come up as a new device with its own folder, just as if you were booting up a CD or DVD with files on it.

There is really no way to use the SD as a Hybrid drive with the hard drive in the notebook. It is only going to be used as for external storage.

If you are running out of space on the notebook, you may want to get something like a 1TB Toshiba Canvio drive to move any pictures, documents, music, etc. over there.

I keep only the OS and programs I use on my hard drive. All other data is kept on two cloud drives for redundancy.

It appears it is being Flagged as a removable drive or folder and thus no recycle bin..

Tried what? We merely pointed out that removable media doesn't get a recycle bin. No recycle bin means files are permanently deleted.

Oh
I thought you are talking about settings applied to storage devices found in device manager.

OK, I don't think you can change it from removable to fixed drive. Not easily if at all. I tried to do it to a USB thumb drive and got nowhere. It was a bit set in the firmware.

That is because it is. SD cards, USB sticks, USB drives are all considered removable drives. The Recycle bin for that drive is a part of the regular bin. Microsoft started doing that with Vista.

Alpha actually with a Raspberry Pi, you can make the SD card a fixed unit.
