Windows 8.1 - Firewall & Defender

I ran into trouble with my ultrabook pc.

1. My machine runs Win 8.1
2. I hv a pro version of Malwarebytes running as well
3. I hv installed Kaspersky 2015 internet AV

I am a novice, so you can imagine what all I hv installed. I realised that Win 8.1 runs a defender and spyware - unfortunately both are turned off.

Action center prompted me to turn it on. When I attempt to turn it on, It points me to Windows:System32:DRVfolder

Not responding. In the mele, my Samsung S Agent and Support Center hv turned off or hv bn corrupted. The service agents suggested that I refresh the pc which I am against. Can any one of guys help.

I did read some threads and follow the path. Went to 'Services.msc' located windows defender - which showed manual mode, attempted to change it to 'automatic' did not work. I located 'windows defender network' which reads manual mode, attempted to change it to automatic mode, error 577 popped up.

Wonder if I am done with OS and follow the advice of the S Agent, who can't differentiate the issues at hand.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Just ignore Action Center. It has a tendency of going Chicken Little over nothing. As long as Firewall is off, Defender is off, then don't worry.

As for the all-in-one security. Sometimes those software packages tend to cause headaches when they are not user friendly, regarding Firewall Rules when going from your home (Private) network to say a Public (unsecured) network.

So, when installing MWB pro on 8.1, one can no longer use the built-in Win Defender? 3rd party AV is required?
