Cursor flickering annoyingly when typing

Good day,

Today, I noticed that my mouse pointer is flickinger/blinking very badly when I'm typing something. Interestingly, this only happens when I'm typing in the address bar of Internet Explorer while the cursor is also pointed on the address bar or on the title bar. It also blinks when I'm typing in the address bar while the mouse is pointing on the New Tabs page of Internet Explorer. Typing in Word or in Notepad doesn't cause the issue; it's isolated to Internet Explorer. I have tried turning on and off the checkbox to hide the cursor during typing but that didn't fix anything.

I didn't make any changes recently other than installing the Windows updates of this month yesterday and installing a game today. Running Windows Pro 8.1 64x.

Although I'm quite positive this behavior wasn't there before maybe someone could check if the cursor is behaving the same way on his/her PC?

Not on mine.

Maybe adjust blink rate---

Cursor Blink Rate - Set - Windows 7 Help Forums

Just tried and it didn't work. Have you tried it in Internet Explorer while having the cursor pointed on the New Tabs page?

It doesn't seem to flicker when I'm typing something that's already there in the Autofill section; only when I'm typing something new. Turning Autofill on or off doesn't help.

Edit:
I just noticed it also flickers when typing something in the box where you test the letter repeat rate in the keyboard options you linked me to. This is getting weird..

Well I typed in the address bar with the cursor arrow pointed at both a new tab and the title bar, and each time I hit a key it flickered very briefly. But for me this wasn't annoying, and as I'm generally looking at my keyboard when I type, I don't actually notice it at all.

Hold on, so it should behave like this?? I could've sworn it wasn't supposed to be like that. Since I type without looking at the keyboard, it gets quite annoying. Perhaps anyone else can verify if this is normal?

I just tried it on a different laptop and the same happened - looks like the arrow disappears then reappears. I am only seeing this because I am actually looking at the arrow as I type. I can imagine that if you can see it out of the corner of your eye it could be irritating. Fortunately, my typing skills aren't that good.

Thanks a lot for testing. The weird thing is that I have always been looking at the screen while typing and I only noticed this recently. For some reason, after reformatting my PC I always notice things that I consider new while they actually have always been there even before the format.

You're welcome. I guess our brains just get used to things and start to ignore them, but then when something is changed they start to notice things again.
