So I'm wondering if this
[h=1]Selected boot image did not authenticate[/h] can be fixed by re formating the HD and re installing a retail copy of W8.1 on a HP laptop.

I may end up winning a bid on this thing, eems the guy didn't post this problem till the bid was in, but I think it can be fixed with a re install of the OS, there are no system recovery disks, but I have a copy of W8.1 and a retail key anyway Cause he said he also gets a "install an operating system" message too. Its an HP Envy with this leap motiuon stuff.

It may be possible to use the factory restore feature that most brands include instead of the disks. Your Product Key can't be used if already on another computer. The Product Key for the HP will be for OEM and may be in the BIOS depending upon if the Notebook originally came with Win8 or Win8.1.

yeah my thought on the price thing is the same homes, I managed to just retract my bids and be done with it. Although I'm sure I could have got it runnin, but it would have taken some effort as you feel too. I'm sure my W8.1 install/setup could be used with a generic instillation key just to get the system back up, but its a moot point for now. The hardware on it was worth at least 200 though :), the idiot that's selling it just has no idea how to even start lol, he said he installed some motion software and it hosed it lolol.
