Hello everyone.
in the days of windows 98/XP The search function was very simplee and reliable.

but the new search method in windows 7/8/8.1 just misses files.
1. sometimes it searches for ever.
2. but the real bad thing is that it misses files! it drives me crazy! i type a file and search it, it gives no reasults and then i find it my self! how can it be? is windows 7/8 search files only on indexted places?
3. the search on explorer and the search on WIN+F or WIN+W (what's the difference between them) gives another resaults!

what a mess!!!

I have found for years that Windows Search does better if I rebuild the index every few months.
Control Panel| Indexing Options| Advanced| Index Settings| Rebuild. It may take a while to completely rebuild, but if you do not use the keyboard or mouse for, say 20 minutes, it will finish about that quick. Usually picks up stuff that it forgot or whatever. Just a suggestion.

A real good search tool is Ultra Search:
UltraSearch finds files and folders on local NTFS drives and provides the results in just a few seconds.

UltraSearch does not maintain an index which is stored on your harddisk, but achieves its speed by working directly on the Master File Table (MFT) of the NTFS partitions. UltraSearch even identifies NTFS hardlinks. Simply enter a file name or a pattern like *.exe and see the first results while you are still typing. In addition, UltraSearch supports regular expressions.
Additional information like file size and file dates (last changes, last access and file creation) will be shown for all listed files. Naturally, the Explorer context menu is available inside UltraSearch.
UltraSearch enables you to exclude folders, files or file types from searches via an exclude filter. The search results can be sorted according to different criteria, printed or exported as text, RTF, HTML, CSV, and Excel file.
The 100 recently used search patterns can be saved and selected from a dropdown list. UltraSearch can suggest patterns or autocomplete manually entered patterns automatically.
UltraSearch can be started from the context menu of your Windows Explorer - starting a search within the selected directory could not be easier.

That's odd, I'm using it on Win7 Win8.1 and Win10TP, all with the default settings. Try searching for the word "photo"(on my system it brings up a lot. If it then works it could be a problem of what you are searching for, UltraSearch doesn't use an index, it uses the MFT which has everything on your system; and that's why Microsoft doesn't search this way, because it would be easier to delete the wrong thing and muck up your system. So be very careful using it.

If you use any kind of UXthemer tool for 3rd party themes, it breaks the capability, change to a windows theme-run sfc /scannow in an Admin command prompt- restart-then try to run perfmon /report again.

Try running
Code:
 sfc /scannow
a couple of times(reboot after each time). I've only had that problem in windows 7 when I used a theme patcher and in windows 10(it's turned off). If that doesn't work try this batch file that's attached( download>right click and unlock>apply>right click run as administrator)- it can take a while to finish.
