Hello to all,
Tonight I experienced the symptom of the machine had gone into screen shutdown. It had been sitting that way for several hours. I moved the mouse, got the log in screen, saying I was still logged in and enter the password. All came up fine. I then went to do the charm bar shutdown which has been working, and it went into the shutdown with circling dots and stayed there for 10 minutes, before I powered off. I powered up and it took a longer it seemed time to boot up and then appears to be working normally! Any assistance is appreciated.

Hello Callico,
The only thing that I did was to remove Norton Internet Security from the system. Giving WFirewall and WD a test run.
That day I had done a maintenance, full scan with WD. I believe that is about it.
Oh the board is a for the other question which I forgot to mention is a MSI KA780G with a AMD X2 6000+ processor. Thanks buddy!

If nothing else has changed, I'd be in inclined to think there's a remnant of Norton interfering with various system processes. It certainly won't be the first time this has happened. In the first instance. I'd suggest running Norton Removal Tool 2012.0.5.15 to pick up any stray components. It's also worth checking the Windows system log for shutdown events, maybe we can see how far the process us getting. if you want, just export the log (the Application log also) and attach them to a post.

As far as the ACPI settings, if the aforementioned has no effect on resuming from sleep, check which options you have set under Power Management, in the BIOS. It looks like the default for ACPI is S1, so you could try setting it to S3. If you do that, you'll receive some additional options. Leave those at defaults for now.

Hello Calico,
I believe you are correct, but it is a moot point now. I thank you for your attempts at helping, but after however long it was, I have had my main computer down and have had to use the W8 system. I am sorry, but I do not feel comfortable using plain windows stuff for defense when it comes to real information. So I buckled and reinstalled the Full NIS 2012 again. I can live with a shutdown problem. Once the main system is fully up and backed up I may try the Norton 2013 Beta which is supposed to be compatible or try the windows line of products again. How do you spell indecisive?
I will look into the ACPI settings and see, I don't even know if it is worthwhile until I get Norton back off....
Thanks greatly
Glenn
