Does the laptop have its own DVD Software? You would have to have a 3rd party software like Cyber link DVD, or you would have to have Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center to play DVDs from PowerPoint as it needs decoding software to run it.

Hi yes the laptop has cyber link power DVD 12. Both PowerPoint videos and DVD worked fine until a wk ago. Not sure if I'm doing the right think but currently setting the computer back to factory settings as I did a restore and it didn't change anything.

What mfg & model of monitor or projecter are you using? Does Windows show up on just the laptop screen? How are you connecting to the second screen?

Hi.. I'm not sure what mfg means. Generally I use different models of projectors as I don't have my own. I connect to the second screen by pressing the windows key and P or if I swipe in from the right the options come up to extend or duplicate etc

mfg is short for 'Manufacturer". As for reinstalling the OS, you did not need to do that. You basically took the wrong path in fixing a simple issue, if only you would have been a lot more forthcoming in the information I asked for at the beginning.

Without following the steps needed to diagnose an issue, but the end-user just ups and does what they want. You really made it more difficult.

Hi broe23 thank you for your feedback. I do take on board what you say. setting the computer back to factory settings may not have been the right decision. I done this in haste due to needing to deliver a presentation but I again thank you.
