Funny, I have the links that I created for a Win8 folder for shortcuts. One was for the new Resource Monitor on Win8. Turns out that it still works on Win7!
This is the new resource monitor , right?

you can run any of the win8 .msc files in win7.

If you used a shortcut to resmon.exe within win7 - then it would start up win7 resmon.exe

Indeed, resmon.exe also invokes the application.

Thanks! I did a search for the .msc files in Win8 Windows directory and found quite few. Task Scheduler and Group Editor were in there. I will have to see if they actually work. As for any .exe in the System32 (Win8)folder (like tskmgr.exe), they give a "not valid Win32 application" error when I tried to run them when running Win7.

Which files are you trying to run? Most of the mmc (Microsoft Management Console) files - those with an *.msc extension - are the same in Windows 7 and Windows 8. Likewise:

Task manager - taskmgr.exe (same on both)
Task manager - tm.exe (Windows 8)
Resource Monitor - resmon.exe (same in both)
Performance Monitor - perfmon.exe and perfmon.msc (same in both)

Incidentally, you can create your own customised mmc consoles:

1. Select winkey+R
2. Enter mmc
3. Select File Add/Remove Snap-in
4. Choose the elements you want
5. Save the customised console

Calico, how is it that your posts make me feel like a Windows noob? heh. yeah, I noticed that all the Win8 commands were the same as the Win7 ones. I was hoping to salvage something from Win8 after being forced to go back to Win7. Its not IB's fault but the lack of support by the mobo manufacturer.

I was sorry to hear about your recent experiences with the new kit. I hope things get sorted out soon.
