Hi,

I'm having a small issue with the Fast Startup feature with Windows 8.1. I've searched the forums and haven't found any type of help regarding this issue, maybe because nobody else has had this problem.

When I boot my computer from Fast Startup, every so often, my Netgear N300 Wireless USB adapter will not find my wireless router, and when I try to go to the Network and Sharing center to check the issue, Network and Sharing center will freeze up, and won't do anything. I unplug the wireless adapter and the Network and Sharing Center is still frozen. I have to do a full reboot to get my wireless adapter working again. This seems to only happen if I keep the wireless adapter plugged in during fast startup, however, if I have it unplugged during fast startup, and plug it in after its booted, then it works just fine.

Is there any reason this could be happening? Currently I have Fast Startup disabled so I don't keep having this problem. I'm just wondering if it would be a problem with my wireless adapter not being compatible with fast startup.

Also, I have another issue as well with fast startup turned on. When I boot my computer from fast startup, I'll generally search for updates to see if any updates need to be installed for Windows. The problem that I have, is that when it downloads Windows updates, it will get to 99 percent, then stop. It won't start installing updates. I shutdown and restart all Windows Update services, and the problem still occurs. When I do a full reboot, all the Windows updates will then to start to install automatically, then I have to restart my computer again to finish installing updates.

Has anybody experienced this problem as well, and know why this is happening. As with my first problem, I have Fast Startup disabled, and with it disabled, I don't have the problem with Windows installing updates, but the problem with Fast Startup is a little annoying. Just not sure if its my computer not fully compatible with it, or if Fast Startup is just a problem on its own.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks to those who read my post. I was actually able to find the cause of the problem. My computer does not support fast startup. Since it is 7 years old, its not going to be able to handle the Hybrid Shut Down. For now, I keep it disabled.

I will be upgrading to a newer ASUS M5A97 R2.0 with a FX-4300. May go to the FX-6300 if I catch it on sale. I'm excited to work with the new UEFI Bios.
