problems with OneDrive

I have already read dozens of other articles on this topic in numerous forums and tried everything I have read, so I am now at a loss.

I have recently reinstalled windows (twice) and refreshed (twice) and still having same issues.
SkyDrive would do nothing, no sync, not showing files, could on turn on the default storage as it just turned off.
After installing all the Windows 8.1 updates, SkyDrive has now switched to OneDrive which has now resulted in me getting this error as well.
"Onedrive sync engine host has stopped working"

I have already run the troubleshooter many times, but this does not work as it says it cannot find folder "" which is required
I have made the various suggested registry changes I have found
I have done skydrive /shutdown /reset etc
I tried to switch from MS user to local user, this fails with error 0x80004005

nothing has worked

yes that is the one I tried. If I run it before updating windows, then it tells me I need to update ondrive, after which I get the aforementioned error.
