Sleep and Hibernate Problems

I have a new Asus, Windows 8.1 laptop that's barely a month old, and after a week or so of having this laptop Sleeping and Hibernating do not work. The screen will turn black, and the fan and lights would still be on, no matter how long I wait (and I waited). Beforehand, the laptop would shutdown after a while, but I managed to disable that, though it's pointless, since I still end up manually shutting down the laptop.

I've researched so much about this, and it seems like it's a common problem, yet all these "solutions" aren't solving anything. Here's a picture of my energy report:

Yes. I've tried powercfg /requestsoverride DRIVER srvnet system multiple times, as well as some other weird stuff like blocking media streaming, homegroup stuff, and more. None of which has worked. This is getting really annoying, and I do not want my laptop to break down after just getting it.

Thank you for any help.

It was going to sleep and you disabled it

You have manually shut them down - otherwise they go to sleep or hibernate on there own..

yeah? whats the problem.. sleep and hibernate are terrible ideas anyway, I've read nothing (like you) but countless problems and incompatibilities when computer wake from sleep and hibernate! so the solution? unfortunately is to totally disable sleep and hibernate and just shut down! whats wrong with that anyway? if it takes too long for you to turn your computer on in 2015 then it's time to get with the future.

When I press my power button on my laptop (not even my desktop!) my laptop, it turns on completely in 7-15 seconds.. almost always the lower number.

So make sure you have a good SSD for your hard drive and stop worrying about sleep and hibernate..

if a surgeon was getting tired while performing surgery, I think i would want him to go home and go to sleep (shutdown) and come back when he is fully rested, not go take a 20 minute nap (sleep/hibernate) and then jolt wake up and continue surgery.. he should be (shutdown) sent home and full rest.

-of course a new freshly awake surgeon would have to do the surgery.. blah blah you get the point i hope..

Well, Thats a good solution but what a pain to deal with all that just for sleeping and hibernate.. ha.. but by all means go ahead.

it just boggles my mind when computers shutdown and turn on in 10 seconds these days..

Brink does have very good tutorials.

The problem isn't necessarily with windows. Hardware and software come from many different vendors, and sometimes putting them all together in a box prevents normal operation. These are just methods of fixing that.

The reason sleep is used over shutdown in many cases is because it is quite often still faster than the other, despite quicker boot time. MS also recommends it for shorter periods, and shutdown for longer. Though I can't begin to answer why, specifically.

I hear you DustySailor..

but if sleep wakes up faster than 15 seconds and then you have to deal with memory leaks and problems from it trying to reload what it had to put in low-power mode.. i mean come on .. it's pretty obvious..

here is when i fully shutdown and I did a cold boot up.. You will see its 15 seconds.. (note - I have fast startup disabled and hiberfile/sleep disabled.. ) i'm probably gonna start using this video in all my posts.. so get used to seeing it..

its 2015, unless you have an ipad or phone that you need to "sleep" then ok.. but.. just watch the video..

You have manually shut them down - otherwise they go to sleep or hibernate on there own..

You are misunderstanding me. At first, the problem was that when I put my laptop to sleep or hibernate, or close the lid (when the power setting is on either of those), or when I press the sleep button, the laptop will go to a black screen, and will continue running. The fan would be on and the lights around the laptop would be on during hibernate. I cannot and aren't able to do anything to wake up the laptop from neither sleep nor hibernate. After a while, the laptop would shut down from what I assume is due to problems with the sleep/hibernate. A week ago I found a "solution" that disabled that shut down "feature", so know the laptop would still be on with a black screens, fans and lights and all still on, no matter how long I leave the laptop on.

I unfortunately forget where I disabled it. This is my energy plan, btw, so:

Thank you. I'll see what I can apply. Some of these I've already done.
Also I would like add that some people managed to fix their problems by disabling the Fast Start-up feature, though that didn't work for me.

ahem the following section is not related to this thread.

yeah? whats the problem.. sleep and hibernate are terrible ideas anyway, so the solution? unfortunately is to totally disable sleep and hibernate and just shut down! whats wrong with that anyway?

Excuse me?

I do not care at all on your personal opinions on how to turn off your laptop. My question regards an actual problem about the sleep and hibernate features of my laptop. I use those features. My problem is NOT the fact I use those features, it's the fact those features are not working properly. That is what is wrong.

I've read nothing (like you) but countless problems and incompatibilities when computer wake from sleep and hibernate!

So you're telling me that I am liar, and that I am lying about an annoying problem on my computer so I can achieve...what? I highly doubt you even tried to look up what my problem is, so even though I came here for help, I'll help you instead: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Windows+8.1+Sleep+and+Hibernate+not+working

1) You are assuming my laptop is a goddamn dinosaur. It also tells me that you did not read my post, as I explicitly mentioned this laptop is new.
2) You are essentially telling me that getting a new laptop is the solution to power features not working correctly. That is both not cost effective and extremly stupid.
3) Again, I do not care for whatever agenda or vendetta you have against sleep and hibernation. That is far from my problem.
4) If you have no idea what you are talking about please do not try to help.
5) I will appreciate it that my thread will not be taken over with off-topic blabbering. End of any discussion on this.

Exactly this. I have my own personal use for sleep and hibernate, especially how I travel class to class. Due to where I live, I cannot just carry around a laptop like a dumbass, and must put in my bag every time I go. Shutting down takes too long, and leaving it on with the lid closed inside my bag is going to fry the thing.

I can't believe I even have to explain why I use sleep and hibernate.

click change advanced options and you should find hibernate there..

sleep will leave things running, just not fully powered up.. hibernate shuts down the pc, but will leave the leds slow blinking

I've noticed that, from reading posts here, some computers sleep just fine.
Like mine.

A lot of computers do not. :(

Are you on a network ?

I left my Home Group or whatever it is.
That may have something to do with it. ?

OK,

I Promise this will be my final and last post on your thread as per your request and tone. So worry no more about me telling you an alternative solution/workaround since no other works for you buddy. (you even said it yourself "nothing works and you supposedly tried it all" - in quote below)

However you are in good hands as the rest of the posters here are very capable and knowledgeable of helping you.

-------------------------------
- You don't need to read through your entire 1st post but notice the Bolded highlighted parts of what You say...
-------------------------------
I have a new Asus, Windows 8.1 laptop that's barely a month old,..., no matter how long I wait (and I waited).Beforehand, the laptop would shutdown after a while, but...

I've researched so much about this
, and it seems like it's a common problem, yet all these "solutions" aren't solving anything.

Yes. I've tried... like blocking media streaming, homegroup stuff, and more. None of which has worked. This is getting really annoying...

right, continuing on.. ok..

You are misunderstanding me. At first, the problem was that when I put my laptop to sleep or hibernate, or close the lid ... After a while, the laptop would shut down ....

...a "solution" that disabled that shut down "feature", so know the laptop would still be on with a black screens, fans and lights and all still on, no matter how long I leave the laptop on
.

So We are all now left with information that "after awhile it would shut down"... but the next part says "no matter how long i leave the laptop on.."

-are you seeing where i am going with this??

My problem is NOT the fact I use those features, it's the fact those features are not working properly. That is what is wrong.

-ok I'm not telling you whether or not you can use those features,I am only telling you that sleep/hibernate/stanby have always had problems since the beginning - even security issues..
-Throughout history when you "awake" your computer from these modes, there are so many factors involving electricty/capacitors and resuming from a low-power state has and always has caused memory issues and more - Microsoft, due to the fact of so much hardware out there just can't get it together.. So I'm just telling you, If you need proof, I can post millions of articles which i'm sure you already "researched".. No need to think I'm forcing down your throat that you can't use it.. but if you do use it , there will probably be issues resuming programs.. and/or even things like a network card resuming from sleep usually has issues.. bluetooth has issues resuming from sleep, some hard disks have issues resuming from a low-power mode.. etc.. or in your case it can't even hibernate/sleep..

-this next one was hilarious.. this actually was a miscommunication in the most perfect sense.

So you're telling me that I am liar, and that I am lying about an annoying problem on my computer so I can achieve...what? I highly doubt you even tried to look up what my problem is, so even though I came here for help, I'll help you instead:

-I phrased my sentence incorrectly and worded in the wrong order - which started your fire to burn.. What I should have said is this :

"I have always read about problems when using sleep or hibernate from all around the internet.."

-that is actually all i was trying to say but you start yelling and tell me I call you a liar.. haha.

I can see how you thought that though so this one is my fault I admit due to the way I worded it. I shouldn't have put in parenthesis and just left them out. My quote would have then sounded like this :

"I've read nothing but countless problems and incompatibilities when computer wake from sleep and hibernate!"

instead of :

I've read nothing (like you) but countless problems and incompatibilities when computer wake from sleep and hibernate!

And if you didn't laugh enough, here is the final part.

2) You are essentially telling me that getting a new laptop is the solution to power features not working correctly. That is both not cost effective and extremly stupid.

Ok, actually if you now re-read my postings, you will see all I do is mention as a Workaround or Solution to get a SSD! Nowhere do I say buy another complete computer!?? haha. I only mention about a SSD which by the way costs $116. You can go crucial or Kingston and get even cheaper!..

Shutting down takes too long, and leaving it on with the lid closed inside my bag is going to fry the thing.
I can't believe I even have to explain why I use sleep and hibernate.

I can't believe your computer takes so long to shutdown? what is it doing? I have zillions of programs and my laptop shutsdown very quickly. again I am willing to bet you don't have a SSD!

Have you even begun to think about how your pagefile and how much ram you have could be affecting your sleep/hibernate taking so long to shutdown?

Ok, Goodluck fixing an issue that has caused issues for computers since they came out with the concept of sleep/hibernate.

I actually do hope you get it fixed.. change your pagefile and use an ssd is all I am going to throw out there..

No, I'm not on a network. Though I went so far to create a homegroup, and then leave it just to see if THAT does anything.
It didn't.

Anyways referring to my pic in the first post, it seems like the srvnet driver is the problem. The only only thing I've tried so far is the command line powercfg /requestsoverride DRIVER srvnet system, but that doesn't seem to do anything at all. I still get the same error when I run an energy report after another failed sleep mode test.

I fixed my not sleeping problem by updating my network adapter. Try going to device manager in the control panel then click network adapters then properties. After selecting properties check for a driver update within the properties menu.

Edit: srvnet is not a process running on my pc
stop the service through Task manager and set it to manual
