Touchpad/Mouse issue (Not Hardware)

Hi,

I recently purchased a new laptop. Toshiba Satellite L50 B 1P1. In the last week, the laptop has developed a problem. The mouse performs incredibly inconsistently. On the lock screen, it will work without fault. However, as soon as the computer is unlocked, it sometimes just freezes in a set position. Both keys still work, and i know that the pad isn't at fault, as when spreading my finger over the pad, it selects icons in an up/down selection. The icon size can also be changed with a pitch, but the position will not change.

The resolutions i have attempted such as power on off, function keys, the FN trip and F5/F9 boot were all unsuccessful. However, when updating the driver, the mouse works. However (once bloody more!), when asked to restart the notebook, once restarted the mouse resumes said problems.

Any help welcomed....

Hope I got my point across.

Thanks,

SR

Driver issue, but if the mouse is freezing, it is a hardware issue. Take it back or send it to Toshiba. I use a Logitech m525 laser mouse, because my hand cramps when I use the touchpad all of the time, due to Arthritis.

It's a pain that no one has said if this solved the issue. I have a client with a Satellite that does the same type of thing. The mouse/touchpad works fine until you launch a program. From that point on, the pointer disappears, yet I can scroll using the pad, and the only dependable way to get things selected, etc, is to use the touch screen. I would just as soon uninstall anything that refers to touchscreen and strictly use the mousepad.

suggestions?

On a more recent note, I thought to myself, let's try to update the drivers for the Synaptics pad. As I downloaded the current driver from Synaptics, I prepped to uninstall the driver that was in use. Download finishes, I uninstall old drivers and reboot. Voila. Everything works the way it's supposed to PRIOR to me installing the current. The sys appears to be running the generic two-button mouse drivers. MY issue doesn't replicate anymore. The customer is happy, but I think he may come back to try installing the current drivers because there is no scroll functionality in the pad. He says, the way his wife uses the laptop, she'll never notice. She likes/uses the touchscreen. He doesn't.
