Unable to view videos on Asus notebook running Windows 8

Hi folks
My wife's new ASUS notebook operates on Windows 8.0 and we uploaded the free MS Office 2013 package that came with it. All was well for two weeks but a few days ago she was unable to view videos from Youtube, Iplayer, BBC news etc although the sound track was playing OK, indicating that the downloading/streaming is working OK. In an attempt to resolve the problem, we used the system restore factory settings facility which involved the reloading of Windows 8. The video player then worked OK and she could view videos on the notebook. However, upon reinstalling the Office 2013 package the problem returned and once again unable to view videos.
The notebook is under guarantee so can anyone advise if there's a quick fix for this problem or should we return it to the shop fro advice/remedy.
Any advice would be much welcomed and appreciated

I have Office 2013 on Win8.1 and no problem playing YouTube videos in Firefox and Internet Explorer. I can't see where Office could be breaking that. On Win7 I use the Ant.com toolbar for both playing and downloading .flv files.

As long as you have Adobe Flash & Java installed, you should not be having problems. If you are using Internet Explorer from the Metro/Start screen, some people have reported issues watching video's that way.

and to the best of my knowledge Warrantee doesn't cover software issues ,but hey I have been wrong before

You are correct. Warranty only covers hardware failures within the specified contract time for the appliance.

Really need more info from the OP.

I had the same issue with 8 because it uses IE10. Upgrade to 8.1 Pro

What do you need Office for anyway ?

And I seriously doubt it`s free, probably just a trial.

he has 8, you have 8.1, no IE11 in 8 and you can`t upgrade to IE11 in 8.
