Where to Begin

Love gadgets and have owned and enjoyed mac and windows devices, mostly windows. All the operating systems to the current one Win 8.1 on a Dell laptop. Is it the Dell or the OS?

First, love two finger scrolling. Stops for no discernable reason and going into touchpad settings turning it off and on doesn't fix the problem. Only a restart.

Second, frozen cursor syndrome. Have seen this in every computer but seems much worse on this one. For more info this is a 64bit version of the OS with 12gb of ram and a 1tb hd.

Any ideas?

You know, I have been using task mgr for several things but never think about it in these circumstances. While it might explain the freezing cursor don't see how that could explain the scrolling issue. Of course, I get around the cursor by using the touchscreen.

It still takes up CPU time having to redraw the screen as you scroll; actually it's probably more CPU intensive as there are more elements to handle. Regardless, I was just trying to think of ways you could identify the cause.

I'm just throwing it out there that you probably have some software installed that is conflicting with your touchpad software.. it could be anything..

Only a restart.

if restarting fixes your trackpad? then what are you doing or using right when it "stops" working??

you should look through your software programs you have installed and it could be any of the programs in your "Programs and Features" list..

perhaps list your software running with the taskmanager.

windows cursor freezing i'm guessing you mean it's loading something the cursor stops? you say you have seen this problem in all computers.. well, yes computers have problems but you may wanna start considering all the brands of the computers you have "seen" these problems in..
