I need to find an action in my laptop’s Log as soon as possible. Any quick response to this is appreciated - it's very time sensitive.
I’ve managed to do the following:
Press start and type computer then press enter.
this will open up computer management.

under System tools node expand event viewer node.
open Windows logs node.

This is as far as I have gotten and I’m not sure where to go from here - I am actually looking to see if a SatNav device that I hooked up to the computer on 30th January had any of its information logged on my laptop (ie primarily its serial number). It was stolen from my car and the police want a Serial Number if I can provide it. Unfortunately the box for the SatNav was stolen too, so this is my only option and if 7 days is the max Log you can view, tonight is the last night I will be able to see information from the 30[SUP]th[/SUP]. I've already called the SatNav company and for some reason it didn't connect to their database properly so they cannot provide me with the Serial Number.

not 100% sure but ,I have never heard of a complete history log in windows ,and 2nd I doubt the device would have logged the serial # of the device just by plugging it into the computer .

Caper Jack - There is a complete log check but I just need advanced advice to find what I am looking for - the instructions that were given to another person for a different issue are below which specifies how you go about it - but I specifically need to find this one thing and accessing it is not obvious as there are lots of areas I can click on - I'm a bit lost with it and I need to narrow it down....

Press start and type computer then press enter.
this will open up computer management.

now under System tools node expand event viewer node.
now expand Windows logs node.
finaly click on Applicatin node.

now in top left corner click on Action and select filter current log
now in this dialog in drop down menu of loged label select last 7 days
fill in additional info and click OK.
now when you click on any log you'll get details bellow computer management window.

Do so for every node like Applications and services node, filter them and read detais as long as you want.

It's hard to find what what you want there cos a lot of info but I think this is the only option to check events in past 7 days.
