Hello!
I have a problem with radio shortcuts that I created a few months ago. When I double click a shortcut addresses to listen to as usual the error message below appears.
I tried to recreate them again, but always the same result.
the only way I can play them is copying the addresses and opening Windows Media Player => File => Open URL, I then pasting the addresses.

I can't figure out why the shortcut links of the radios don't work any more !

I'm not sure what a radio shortcut is - Radio is most likely a poorly translated word.
Is there another word you could use to describe the shortcut?

Is it possibly a play list?

Thanks for your reply.
what I mean is the Shortcut that you can create by right-clicking in the desktop => New...in a step you can copy and paste a link of a radio like 'mms:cnn.com.livestream'. that I called Radio Shortcut Link or Address.
I hope the translation is better now.

I'm not sure what a radio shortcut is - Radio is most likely a poorly translated word.

Thanks, your translation was fine. The problem was my understanding ;)

I tried to open the stream (from one of your posts) in VLC and I'm not getting anything either.
mms://a1477.l3760635476.c37606.n.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1477/37606/v0001/reflector:35476

I'll play around with it and try a few other streams to make sure it's not VLC, my connection, or some other technical bottleneck.

But at first glance, it looks as though those streams(I only tested one) have been taken down or the stream address has changed.

Are any streams working for you?

Bill

Thanks, this seems to be either a link (shortcut) issue or a filetype association specific to the mms protocol issue.

I tried creating a shortcut using only the mms address of one of your working addresses, but Windows didn't like it. I've never tried this before, so it's obvious that's not the right way to do it.

Do other shortcuts on your desktop work? You can test with a simple shortcut to your temporary files is you don't have one handy.
use environment variable defined for \appdata\loacal\temp as the target location for the shortcut
%TEMP%

Then try the Temp shortcut you just created

If that works (or any other shortcut you already had works), then I'll need a little help creating one for the mms protocol.

Please post the target field of any of the Radio shortcuts and I'll try to recreate what is happening on your machine.

It's probably something like
Target: [ C:\Program Files\...\VLC.exe mms....]
(best I can do to simulate the field box)
Since you already have some, let me know what one looks like.

You can just grab the text in the Target filed or post a screenshot of the shortcut properties

Thanks

Hmmm, I seem to be having technical difficultities.

And you've already told me what the target location is - sorry about that.

I tried using VLC and hit a firewall issue - that's not the issue on your side though since you can listen if you paste the address directly into 'Open URL'.

I tried to emulate the issue using VLC but I know you are using Media Player.

I might not be best suited to help due to my configurations, but I'll keep looking into it.
This has always interested me and I can play some streams. I often find it difficult even when I plug the address into the Network URL field (VLC's equivalent field to WMP Open URL.

I might have to reinstall WMP to test.

I had to resort to the command line to get VLC to play one of the mms addresses, it took a while to load, but eventually did play.

I modified a bookmark in Ineternet explorer, so now I have a Internet shortcut that has a mms target location.

Another brick wall, VLC is not registered to support the mms protocol. I'll fix that, but the easy 'associate a filetype or protocol" in default progams isn't playing nice.

None of this has anything to do with your side, only my trying to emulate the issue on my side.

There is one question that comes to mind:

how did you create the shortcut? New -> shortcut?

Try what I did ... bookmark your thread (this page) and name it mms-a
then open bookmarks,
right click the bookmark mms-a (the one you just created) and
select properties
paste

mms://50.22.223.13/afs

into the URL field, then
press OK

Go back to bookmarks and double click the bookmark mms-a

If that works, navigate to the Favorites folder under your user ID and drag the bookmark mms-a to your desktop.
Try the shortcut from your desktop. Why? to test it from there (your thread mentions desktop - but if it works in your bookmarks folder it should work anywhere)
