Very unhappy.

I received a Lenovo edge 15 for Christmas,with 8.1 installed on it. So last night I shut down my pc like I normally would, waiting for it to be completely shut down before closing the screen. This afternoon when I pressed the power button, guess what I'm greeted with, a freaking black screen. No boot screen or anything. I can only move my mouse! And this is a brand new computer,with only a game installed on it! What the heck is happening,I really am thinking about returning the darn thing.

No new computer should do that. Return it for replacement of repair while you still can. The problem could be a number of things so don't break your head trying to figure it out, let them fix the problem. It is unfortunate but every so often it happens.

remove battery ,and power plug, hold power button in for about 1 minute ,ig it still dosnt boot to windows ,do as suggested and take it back and let them fix it ,good luck

I would suggest getting it replaced within the return period and not dealing with the problem.
And that issue (cursor with black background) sounds operating system related IMO.

I'd also take it back to be point of sale. Let them handle the problem, it's a new laptop, it has to work without issues.
