Create Empty Folder in Windows 8.1 Like in Windows XP

I want to create an empty folder on my Windows 8.1 desktop. By empty I mean empty as in a Windows XP folder. I do not want File Explorer on the left side of the folder nor do I want any title bars at ther top of my desktop folder. I would like a completely empty folder like in XP on my desktop. I will use the folder to hold shortcuts that are currently on my desktop. Is this possible in Windows 8.1? I am using the Classic Start Menu as my desktop access method.

Right click the desktop, new then folder.

I'm gonna guess that maybe the OP is looking for something like 'Fences':

You can customize the look of the folder after you create it by turning off the Navigation Pane and hiding the Ribbon.



Unfortunately, all of your folders will use the same view.

Fences:
Double click on the desktop to reveal, double click to hide.

I thank you all for your replies. Apparently there is no way to create an XP style empty folder then stuff it with shortcuts. Why they removed this very useful feature I don't know. Now, if I adjust one folder, it has an effect on all, as mentioned in one of the replies above. Perhaps they will return again to XP style independent folders in Windows 10, or whatever they're calling it these days.

You can still create a new folder & rename it & put anything you want into it.
Drag & drop.
C & P.
etc.

I used to have XP Pro.
I don't see how anything has changed.
