Solved Win + X Power Users Menu Slow to Respond

Since installing a large number of Windows and driver updates, the Win + X Power Users Menu has become slow to respond. Every menu item does respond, but only after a delay of 10 to 15 seconds. Previously the response was instant. Accessing any of these menu items via an alternative route still gives an instant response however so something seems to be interfering with the Win + X menu. Any ideas on a fix for this without uninstalling all the updates?

Hello Brink,

Yes, I understand that a system restore will undo the changes made, but I was more keen to find out what is the cause of the issue as once the updates are reinstalled I may find that I am back to square one with the problem. I know that it is possible to edit the Win + X menu; is there a way to reset it in the hope that this would effect a cure?

Peter

Yes, but that is not the issue. The menu itself opens instantly, but clicking on a menu item results in the 10-15 sec delay I described.

I am not sure if you've tried this. If not, download: WinAero: Win+X Menu Editor for Windows 8 and reset WinX menu to default as shown below:

If still does not work then try this link:

Even though the title says for right click. However, any item that you select in WinX menu is run under Windows Explorer and if you have an incompatible shell extension. It also causes the delay problem.

Many thanks topgundcp, your second option traced the culprit and I was able to cure the problem.
Trouble is the culprit was "BthSendToContextMenuExt Class" and I have no clue what this is nor if disabling it will create other problems.

Thanks again,
Peter

Hello Peter,
Glad to hear you got it sorted. BthSendToContextMenuExt Class is the context menu for Skydrive pro and it should not create any problem.

Here's the list of different shell extensions that might cause the problem and yours is also on the list:
