Wrong name and Manufacturer

This may not be the correct section, if not feel free to move it.

I was checking on some stuff in the PC Settings section, and noticed that somehow the computer name, and even the manufacturer is wrong. I have a two week old Dell named Robby, the information showing is for my old pc, an Acer named 5732. So The name should be Robby and manufacturer is Dell, but it is named 5732 and manufacturer as Acer.

I guess my first question is, I know the computer has synced with something, but I have no idea what I have set to sync. My next question is how to reset this so that it doesn't just change back an hour later.

What install media did you use to install Windows on the Dell? Did you take the hard drive from one PC and put it in the other? The Manufacturer and Model info can be added during the install with custom install media. I add that info to my install media for each PC I own.

Brink, thank you for the information, but before I could get back here to get your reply I started getting locked out of things because the registered owner, password and manufacturer information did not match what showed on the file. I couldn't get in to change information, without a password, which I haven't used in many years, and Onedrive was downloading files from a skydrive account I don't even remember making, especially since the files were at least 4 years old. I don't see how it could happen, but I have to wonder if onedrive had anything to do with it.

Alphanumeric, I ordered the laptop from Dell with 8.1 preinstalled, did not change hdd's, and even though at times in the past I have changed the registered owner and manufacturer information as a joke, I did not change it this time. I logged on one day and it showed the pc name as "Robby" and manufacturer as "Dell", the next day name was "5732" and manufacturer was "Acer". As I told Brink, even though I know it's really not possible, the only thing I can think of or have found that might have auto synced information from an old computer is Onedrive. To be honest probably the only reason I even thought about onedrive is because of how mad I am that it is even installed on my computer, not to mention it can only be "deactivated" and not uninstalled, as far as a I'm concerned this is Microsoft invading my privacy, stealing my information, and identity fraud, had I known that 8.1 had onedrive and couldn't be uninstalled, I would have ordered a W7 computer and paid the extra $100. But that's not the issue.

At this point I don't care how the information was changed, except that I need that information to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I've never seen that info it synced from one PC to another. I log onto 4 different PC's here at home with the same live ID. There isn't any point in doing that when 99 times out of 100 the other PC is going to a different model from a different manufacturer. Plus, you don't want two PC's with the same name on your network.
The OEM info is stored in the Windows registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation
The computer name can be changed in Advanced system settings under the Computer Name tab. Right click the Start Button and select System. Then click Advanced system settings in the upper left.

EDIT: Here is an example of the info I enter for my main desktop PC.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"Logo"="C:\\windows\\ASUS\\ASUSLOGO.bmp"
"Manufacturer"="ASUSTeK Computer Inc."
"SupportURL"="ASUS"

I've never seen that info it synced from one PC to another.

I haven't either, that's the whole point of my question, it does not make sense, there is no way it should have happened. I can't figure it out. Like I said, one day it showed one thing, the next it showed the other, and I didn't do anything to cause it to change. The old pc was an Acer 5732, which is what the Dell became, an acer named 5732. If I didn't change the information, to show the old pc info, then how did it happen, and how do I keep it from happening again?

I have no idea how it happened? Where you copying any files etc from the old PC to the next with say Windows Easy Transfer?

One drive sync settings can be found in PC Settings > One Drive > Sync. I don't see anything in there that would do that? As you've found out, its not something anybody would want to do on purpose.

No, luckily I backup on a regular basis, actually what I usually do, is copy my files I need/want to keep to an external hdd, then once a week, I will plug it up, and sync one way pc to hdd, then we have an old desktop, hooked to the tv for watching netflix, or blu-ray and other media, it has two drives a 40gb for the os, and another TB that we sync all the other pc's with over the network. This way no matter what happens I have at least one extra copy. I've never really had any luck repairing an installation using normal "backup" software I always lose something, so now I just keep my folders synced on the other two hdd's.

But, I haven't even started to attempt to copy files back to this pc. I debated about whether to buy this machine with 8.1, or spend the extra $100 to get a identical hardware pc with W7 instead. I had used 8 one time and knew I would not like it, but just didn't have the extra $100 to spend right now, I still have a couple of weeks to decide if I"m going to keep it or send it back and get the 7 machine. There is a 98% chance I'll be exchanging for the 7 machine. I loathe 8, I just hate everything about it. Again I'm getting side tracked.

I haven't copied any of my saved files to this machine, I wanted to make sure I was going to keep it before I spent the time to do the copy, and I thought I had Onedrive turned off, I found it when exploring the day I got the machine and thought I had it turned off. Then about 10 days later I got on one morning, and had downloaded a file that my wife needed, and I was going to just access her document folder remotely over the network, and at that point I noticed my computer name had changed from Robby to 5734, which made me start looking and over night the name, and user had both changed, and about 10 files dated back in 2009-2010 had downloaded to the Onedrive folder, files that were originally made on the Acer 5732 machine. I don't remember loading them to what was skydrive, but being 4 years ago, I could have forgetton about doing it. But I most certainly did not give this machine permission to access that account, and I sure didn't ask Microsoft to put Onedrive on here. There are reasons I don't want things backed up to the cloud. As far as I'm concerned having Onedrive preinstalled with no way of uninstalling is theft, and identity fraud, among other things. Luckily I found a reg hack to disable it, but would prefer to uninstall it. My point is there is no reason why or how the info changed, but it did.

I don't know enough about networking ,but since it changer after you try connecting to your network ,maybe the network device stores such info and it made the boo-boo, something to look into maybe .good luck ,and if I disliked win8 as you do I would go for the win7 machine ,
